Sneak Up!

Outfit details:
Black and White Jumper - Topshop
Joni Jeans - Topshop
Black Boyfriend Coat - Tokyo
Sneakers - Neon Pink Nike Frees

A simple and rather casual outfit of the day, but I felt that I should take our own advice about the sneaker trend and try it out in the wild. The first challenge was figuring out my color palette, and monochrome seemed the easiest to pair with my neon pink kicks. Next time, I'm going to experiment with a more girly outfit and see what I come up with it. But, you know -- baby steps! And speaking of steps, I did quite a bit of walking that day and my feet thanked me for wearing my Nikes.

BONUS BLOOPER: Super windy day challenges of a fashion blogger. For every blog-approved picture there are several of these! (^_-)

Fashion in Motion: Street Style

mkus02
Before the Meadham Kirchoff show began, us RF girls were buzzing with excitement for the show and our win at Clothes Show Live for Fashion Blogger of the Year (more coming up soon about that!) Currently at the V&A, the main entrance's foyer has an absolutely gorgeous Christmas Tree of Love made of Velvet & Antlers. It certainly made us feel festive! How did we get such fabulous-looking friends? We're not entirely sure, but we are probably subconsciously seeking them out.

Barney's feminine collar looked absolutely fetching with t-shirt and leopard-print coat!

This eye-catching trio looked so chic and encapsulated the feeling of the Meadham Kirchoff show with their pretty, shiny shoes, pastel fluffiness and cute hairstyles!

After the awe-inspiring show, we were completely high on life with thoughts of face veils and rhinestone makeup swimming in our heads. We decided to be cheeky and take a couple sneaky pics on the set before we exited.

Catching Firewood

I don't know about you but I have been looking forward to Hunger Games: Catching Fire since the first installment came out. I love a good dystopian future story (favorite book in high school was The Handmaid's Tale) and good braided hairstyle. So I decided to channel my inner Katniss and rock my own side-braid with a woodsy-inspired look for the night I went out to see the film with friends.

Outfit details:
Checkered button-up shirt - H&M
Wool & Lace Skirt - Zara
Leather-sleeve Jacket - Forever 21
Silver Buckle Boots - H&M
Burgundy Beanie - Urban Outfitters
Nails - American Apparel Gold Glitter Lacquer & YSL Coral Lacquer

But back to the Hunger Games, what was your favorite outfit on Katniss? The wedding dress was my favorite by far, because of that "wow" moment when she transformed with a big eff-you to the Capital. Shaking my head, thinking about I totally should have had Mockingjay wings for my reception dress at my own wedding. I admit that I haven't actually read the novels yet, so I don't know who Katniss ends up with in the end but... are you Pro-Peeta or Pro-Gale? Let us know in the comments!

If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter, you may already know that Remotely Fashion has been short-listed the Clothes Show Live competition for Fashion Blogger of the Year Award. Tomorrow is the big day in Birmingham at Clothes Show Live where the winner will be selected by their judges. We are beyond excited and flattered by this recognition and our crossing our fingers, toes, eyes and everything else. If you see us about at the show, please say hello!

The New Black

As part of the 90s revival, which does not appear to be going anywhere, are the high-waisted loose fitting mum jeans. Love or hate them, you cannot ignore them, the high street is awash with washes on various versions of these trousers.

momjeans_mugshot
We have both had run ins with these jeans in different shops on the high street and they can, quite literally, be the most unflattering, ugly piece of clothing that you will ever put on. And not in a cute ugly way you understand, if the wash is too pale on the hip and thigh area, you'll look as though you are standing in front of a magnifying glass, a la Joey from Friends in Mr. Heckles' apartment circa 1996. And if you do dare to turn around, the sight that can confront you is terrifying --PAN ARSE!! Pan Arse is the absolute worst, it is the phenomenon where your bum looks so flat it is as though someone had cruelly stepped up to you and whacked you on the arse with a frying pan.

Well, we think that we have found the solution -- Black jeans! Although they aren't exactly what you would call flattering, the allover dark wash does mean that you escape the perils of the pale enlarging wash and somehow even Pan Arse is avoided. Magic.

Neptune Planet Power

Outfit details
Leather Jacket - South Korean Boutique
Plaid Dress - ASOS
Beanie - H&M
Bag - Prozena Schouler

I know I may be late on the bandwagon for colored ombre locks, but Chloe Ting's pretty colored locks stirred something in my heart. I decided to utilize my bleached ends and play with a bit of semi-permanent hair color. At first, I thought I'd go for something purple but my hair isn't a light enough blonde for it show up unless I went for a deep purple. I hummed and hawwed over pinks but then I realized the answer was in front of me all along... Michiru Kaiou a.k.a Sailor Neptune, Outer Sailor Senshi of the Deep.

Why would this fictional & flawless anime character influence me so? Well, when I first started making websites at the tender age of 11, my first big project was a "shrine" website dedicated to Sailor Neptune, called Violin Tide. Maybe it was her mature demeanor, her violin prowess, her affinity for the sea, her pink lipgloss or her wavy, teal locks, but I wanted to BE her at the height of my Sailor Moon-loving days. Despite my adoration of her, turns out that I am really nothing like her. I'm really more of a Sailor Venus-type to be honest. (Let me know your favorite senshi in the comments below, plz!) Ahhh, but I couldn't deny my childhood dreams any longer when I saw a bottle of Bleach London "Washed-Up Mermaid" in Boots -- in lieu of getting a hot, blonde girlfriend or violin lessons, it was follicles for the win.
"Bow down to my fierceness."
I applied the blue-green dye all over my tresses, because I have highlights throughout my mane (up at the temple and obviously at the ends). The dye took to most of my hair but there were some sections that it didn't, but I kind of liked this effect. The dye showed itself best at the very tips which were the lightest blonde. I left the dye in for about 2 hours, instead of the prescribed 15 minutes. It turned out to be more of a pastel, seafoam green but I was pleased with the results.

Here is my hair hot off the presses. To check out my hair before please take a look at my Power Lip post. I really liked how the color turned out, I've found that it looks best with my hair curled a la Sailor Neptune. Merely straightened, it looks a bit drab. And curly (check out what my pre-dyed curls look like here!).... it looks downright witchy, unfortunately. Sigh! Being that I do like to wear my hair in its natural state to preserve the health of my strands, this means that my teal hair will have to be ultimately temporary. But while it's here and fades into an even more pastel shade, let's say, "Neptune Planet Power Make-up!" and embrace our inner Sailor soldiers.
Get our own bottle of Bleach London 'Washed Up Mermaid", here!

So readers, if you were going to dye your hair an unconventional shade, what would it be? Tell us in the comments!

The Shoreditch Fashion Show Returns

Vince Kidd offered some soothing sounds and hypnotized the crowd with his lovely voice. We only wish that his set was a bit longer.
Aphra Shemza's glowing art installation was one of the show-stoppping pieces at the Oval Space.
The Man, The Myth, the Legend - Dom and Ink!
Left: Afrow (pictured right) and her friend looked awesome in their twin-ning jumpsuits - you can find Afrow's super cool blog here.
Right: Illustrator Amanda was as sweet as her outfit - have a looksie at her cute as a button blog here.
Left: Matching fringes and crop tops - we were big fans of these fabulous friends.
Right: This stylish trio actually all share the same DNA! The girls are fashion blogging twins and have a stylish cousin to boot!
Left: We fell hard for the headband and fishtail braid combo sported by this adorable event-goer.
Right: Even the staff at TSFS impressed us. Blonde curls and a beanie gets us every time!
Left: Fashion blogging beauties made us stop in our tracks with an adorable Wednesday Adams-esque collar and a bright yellow coat.
Right: We saw this beautiful headchain on these luscious locks. Khaleesi?
Left: We loved fashion designer Eric's lego frame specs, which made their way here, all the way from a street vendor on St Mark's Place in oh so fabulous New York! Check out Eric's blog here.
Right: This fashion designer's neoprene top is one of her own creations - we were positively envious of it, and her beautiful topknot.
Fashion blogger, Cecily, was as friendly as her pretty pastel palette but we love how she edged things up with her nose ring and leather biker. And those earrings were absolutely regal!

Leaves turning to rust usually signifies the fading light  of summer as the nights begin to draw in, but not last weekend, which marked the return of ffbeat's Shoreditch Fashion Show -  The event, held at The Oval Space, was absolutely filled to the rafters with well dressed ladies and gents, welcoming the turn of the season and the autumn fashion that accompanies it. It was a fun filled melting pot of fashion, music and art, with a very friendly atmosphere - who said that fashion had to be bitchy?

For us, the most exciting part of the evening had to be when we FINALLY got to meet the quiff sporting, super cool dude Dom and Ink, whose doodle wall provided event goers with endless entertainment. Disproving the old adage that one should never meet their heroes, Dom is as lovely as his illos are magical! As cool and composed as ever (try as we might to be Stephanie Zinone, we're unfortunately a lot more like those weird cheerleading twins in Grease 2) we screamed like banshees when saw him and garnered many a disapproving glance from the room. We hope that this undignified display won't prevent us from being invited back, because as we left the event on a fashiony high we had but one question on our conjoined minds - when is the next one?

Footnote: After leaving the safe confines of The Oval Space, we were once again roaming free on the streets of Shoreditch and there we encountered something truly alarming - to the girl who had the attitude of Regina George, but was sadly lacking any of her panache, we would like to offer the following words - summer sandals plus a heavy winter coat does not an autumn outfit make. Just because the season lies in between summer and winter it does not mean that it is merely an amalgamation of the two.

The Power Lip

Excuse my tilted engagement ring. More resizing necessary. It's getting chillier -- time to whip out the glitter nail polish!

My lovely Kris Jane silk scarf really added a lovely pop of color to mostly monochrome outfit.

This magnificent church is in Ely, a very cute town in Cambridgeshire.

Outfit details:
Striped crop top - Topshop (similar here)
Faux Leather Skirt - Forever 21 (similar here)
'Divine Emerald' Silk Scarf - c/o Kris Jane International
Black Sneakers - H&M
Leather Bomber - Forever 21
Maroon Hat - On loan from Miriam
Black Leather Satchel - PS 1 Bag
Double Crystal Ring - Urban Outfitters

Looking back on pictures from a weekend out, I noticed there was something off about my outfit. (Please tell me I'm not the only who conducts post-outfit analysis on Instagram?) I think I had all the right elements but something was amiss.... and then I had my a-ha! moment. It was my basically bare lips! As much as a pair of shoes or the right accessory can take an outfit from zero to hero, lip products are right up there too. This Fall I'm very excited to experiment with deep purple and berry shades -- something on The Craft level of lip color. Gosh, now I'm definitely going to have to watch that film tonight.

But anyway! The berry concoction I'm wearing above is Sephora Retractable Waterproof Lipliner in 'plum' with Revlon Lip Butter in 'Pink Truffle' on top. I'm learning that the lip liner might actually be more important than the lipstick itself. I want to say that I recommend this lipliner but it's actually quite crumbly and disappointing because it was quite pricey. It's only redemption is the lip brush attachment.

What lip colors will you be wearing this Fall? Let us know in the comments below!
